The three-layer language plan for a hospital trip to China
Layer 1: keep roaming on
On international roaming, your data routes through your home carrier — so Google Translate, and the AI assistant you already use, keep working in China exactly as at home. For a one- or two-week medical trip, a roaming data package from your home operator is the simplest answer.
Layer 2: two local apps that need no account
Youdao Translate and Baidu Translate both offer voice-conversation mode with Vietnamese, Russian and Indonesian, work without login for basic use, and are tuned for Chinese speech. Install one before you fly as a backup that never depends on roaming.
Layer 3: a human for the conversations that matter
Consent discussions, surgical plans, discharge instructions — these are not moments for machine translation. A remote interpreter on a video call during your consultation costs a fraction of a full-day on-site companion. This is one of the services we arrange.
